Our Mission:

CatholicMil.org serves those who serve, offering U.S. Armed Forces personnel spiritual truths of military life in light of the Catholic Faith. Paragraph 2310 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church states

"Those who are sworn to serve their country in the armed forces are servants of the security and freedom of nations. If they carry out their duty honorably, they truly contribute to the common good of the nation and the maintenance of peace."

The three-fold mission of CatholicMil.Org is
  1. to spiritually edify military families who have an immediate member currently serving active duty;
  2. to promote vocations to the Archdiocese for Military Services, USA
  3. to work towards the canonization of Fr. Vincent Robert Capodanno, the heroic military chaplain who was killed in action administering Last Rites to the wounded and dying on the battlefields of Vietnam

 CatholicMil magnifies the Church’s teaching that military service is “a true vocation”, “a high calling”, “a sacred duty”. Through education, we work towards the restoration of christocentric patriotism, which rests in the order of charity, as love of country- even unto death- flows from love of God. CatholicMil encourages those considering the priesthood to consider the military chaplaincy, petitions all vocations directories to include the Archdiocese for Military Services USA, directs inquiries into the chaplaincy to the Archdiocese for Military Services, and helps those discerning the call to the priesthood or diaconate. We continue the process begun through the work and research of Fr. Daniel Lawrence Mode, Navy Reserve chaplain and author of the definitive book on the life and heroic sacrifice of Vincent Robert Capodanno, and work toward the day the Church officially declares “the grunt padre” a Servant of God.

How We Started:

Recognizing the precious few resources availalbe to those serving in today's US military, the idea for CatholicMil.org was first conceived in 1998. After a pilgrimage to the Holy Land that same year, the long road to establish an entity began. With Jeff Cavins' introduction of AF Reserve Chaplain Fr. John Paul Echert to CatholicMil founder Judy McCloskey, an entity slowly emerged. With the terrorist attack of 9-11, efforts increased to establish an initial web presence which was launched Christmas Eve 2001. Initially, our board of directors was comprised entirely of active duty and reserve military personnel. Now in our third year as a non-profit corporation (as of 2005), CatholicMil founders, directors, associates and advisors continue to minister to active duty personnel. Recognizing the young men and women of today's military as 'the next great generation', CatholicMil aims to provide for the young people of our military spiritual edification in their fight against the evil of terrorism.

How to Help:

Pray for this work and financially support it. Your generosity enables us to continue ministering to Catholics in the Military, their families, and the chaplains that serve them.

All contributions are entirely tax-deductible, as CatholicMil.Org is a non-profit 501.c.3 corporation.

"I came across this site a few weeks ago and I keep coming back and pouring over the contents.  My fiance just returned from over a year long deployment and I am also a Navy brat.  I wish I would have known about this site sooner but I am sending the link to my fiances family.  I was not raised Catholic but Michael is Catholic. This site has explained a lot to me about the church and it's views.  I just went through and read all the questions and answers.  Thank you for making this site..it is much needed." -Laura
